I haven't tried it personally yet, but you might be able to live in a houseboat and everything should be fine as long as all the other houseboats are deleted. I believe what causes the freezing problems was that sims in other households that lived on houseboats would get stuck when going through doorways or something. **Edited to add: You can probably keep one houseboat for yourself, and that should be fine. For the ones that do have sims living in them, I sometimes will move a few of them into other empty lots, but that cuts back even more on your options for places to live and can take a little longer rather than just evicting them all and wishing them luck on their journey elsewhere. So anytime I want to play in that town, before I create or place my sims, I go into Edit Town mode and go through and bulldoze all the houseboats. Which kind of sucks because it does cut back on the number of properties you can move into, as well as reduces the number of sims you can interact with by a little bit, but it's a small price to pay to get to enjoy everything else that town has to offer. I figured it would be a nice getaway when I live in a northern state where its absolutely freeing right now. I too was having the same freezing problem, I purchased Island Paradise expansion pack just 2 weeks ago. But through internet sleuthing, I've found that all you have to do is delete all the houseboats. Bought Sims 4, absolutely hated it and got a refund. I found all the new features so much fun! At first I was so mad at the game because it kept freezing up every few seconds for a few seconds at a time.
